      Inverness County lost one of its best this past week.

Charles Bernard “Charlie” MacArthur passed away on Wednesday, February 24th, at the age of 89.

If asked to point to the quintessential Cape Bretoner, you could not go wrong by acknowledging Charlie, as he was called by all who knew him.

He represented all that was good about the Cape Breton character, and he will always be remembered as a fine man, and what greater legacy can one leave behind.

But there was so much more. He was a true and proud representative of his generation.

Born in the Red Rows of Inverness on December 27th, 1920, he went to school in Inverness and was delivering groceries for Malcolm Dan MacLellan’s store when Hitler invaded Poland in September, 1939.

When Canada declared war on Germany, Charlie figured he had to do his duty, and as he said it seemed more exciting at his age then delivering...
